Roald Dahl poznati je britanski književnik koji je svoju veliku popularnost stekao svojim brojnim djelima, koji su uvelike ostavili utjecaj na djecu, ali i na odrasle. Dahl je jedan od najpoznatijih autora za djecu koji je napisao veliki broj knjiga koje su doživjele nekoliko ekranizacija. Njegove su knjige prodane u više od 250 milijuna primjeraka i prevedene na više od 50 jezika. Dahl je počeo pisati nakon ozljede kao pilot RAF-a u Drugom svjetskom ratu. Prvi roman koji je napisao bio je ‘Gremlini’ za Walta Disneyja te je iz te knjige nastao svjetski uspješan film. Nakon toga je uslijedio roman ‘Charlie i tvornica čokolade’ koji ga je proslavio i doživio čak nekoliko ekranizacija. Nikako ne treba zaboraviti ni ostala velika djela kao što su:’James i divovska breskva’, ‘Čarobni prst’, ‘Charlie i veliko stakleno dizalo’, ‘Fantastični gospodin Fox’, ‘Šašavci’, ‘BFG’ i ‘Vještice’, za koji je 1983. godine osvojio uglednu književnu nagradu Whitbread Award, te je dobitnik i mnogih svjetskih nagrada za književnost.

Ugledni magazin The Times smjestio je ovu književnu legendu na visoko 16. mjesto najvećih britanskih književnika, dok je upravo roman ‘Matilda’ proglasio jednom od najboljih dječjih knjiga svih vremena.

Uz priču o Matildi, neobično nadarenoj i znatiželjnoj djevojčici, odrastale su brojne generacije, a koliko je svi vole svjedoči i gotovo 600.000 čitatelja koji su na poznatoj stranici Goodreads, ovom bezvremenskom klasiku dali visoku ocjenu (4,31 od maksimalnih 5). S prodanih 17 milijuna primjeraka diljem svijeta ‘Matilda’ se smatra jednom od najpopularnijih dječjih priča svih vremena. Renomirani glumac, redatelj i producent Danny DeVito svijetu je 1996. godine predstavio film ‘Matilda’ koji je postao neizostavni dio svakog odrastanja. DeVito je zaintrigirao sve ljubitelje ovog klasika kada je najavio kako bi volio jednoga dana snimiti i drugi nastavak, a sada svi nade polažu u 2021. godinu kada će od prve premijere proći točno 25 godina.

Osim na filmskom platnu, ‘Matilda’ ostvaruje veliki uspjeh i u kazalištu. Više od 10 godina publika diljem svijeta uživa u nezaboravnom mjuziklu koji je u svom prvom desetljeću pomeo konkurenciju i osvojio više od 50 nagrada, među kojima je i nekoliko nagrada Antoinette Perry za izvrsnost u kazalištu, obično puno poznatija kao nagrada Tony.

Ovaj prekrasan klasik dječje književnosti govori o važnosti čitanja i učenja, prijateljstva i ljubavi, važnosti prihvaćanja sebe i drugih. To joj omogućuje da pobjegne u druge i ljepše svjetove, a i da nauči mnoge stvari. Matilda kreće u školu kasnije u odnosu na svoje vršnjake jer su je roditelji zaboravili upisati. Život joj nije lak, a dodatno joj ga zagorčava strašna ravnateljica škole, gospođica Grozobrad, koja muči sve učenike i pritom uživa, no u školi upoznaje učiteljicu Slatkić, koja joj postaje velika potpora u životu i jedino svjetlo u njezinu životu.Usto, Matilda će otkriti i svoje nove talente, uz pomoć kojih će uspjeti ispraviti sve nepravde.
